Body-Centered Therapy

I use practices that center the body, such as mindfulness, somatic exercises, body-focusing and movement in my work, depending on what is most effective for the person I am supporting. My Offering

I seek to support people who are interested in unpacking the impacts of their life experiences, and understanding not only the roots of deeply ingrained patterns, but also the emotions steering your big reactions and the barriers keeping you from reaching your goals. To start understanding what is beneath the surface, it can be helpful to get out of our head, where we have already decided our reasons and rationales, and into our body where our reactions come from.

Somatic and movement therapy may be helpful for people who think a lot, replay scenarios in their head, intellectually understand the "why", but can’t seem to change the behavior. It can be helpful when you find it difficult to “move on” from a feeling, or if you struggle to feel settled within.

I came to somatic therapy, particularly focusing-oriented therapy, as a client. I was very good at understanding the interpersonal dynamics that were problematic, the trauma that I carried, and I was often told I had “great awareness”. However, it was only when I quieted my mind and gave room for my body to speak in a session, that I felt true shifts, emotional relief and processed what I was really carrying.

Now I hope to offer that opportunity to others.

My worldview is also foundational to how I support people. I have a strong sense of justice and believe that everyone deserves to feel love, security and freedom. I have been active in social justice community organising for over a decade. I have also worked for over a decade as a social worker, youth worker and counsellor supporting people who have been subjected to systems of harm.

I seek to offer a path to unravel difficult emotions and experiences in order to nurture healing, develop tools and strengthen groundedness so that you can move in the world with greater ease, wholeness and purpose.
